Liverpool is determined to continue their pursuit of Alexander Isak this summer, even after having an initial bid of £110 million rejected by Newcastle United.
Recently, there has been further development in the transfer saga, as the Sweden international has returned to training in England, according to David Ornstein.
Liverpool’s initial offer for Isak was unlikely to be accepted by the Magpies. While Eddie Howe’s team may publicly claim otherwise, decision-makers at St James’ Park are likely aware of the optics surrounding this deal. Essentially, Newcastle can’t afford to let the 26-year-old leave this summer without making it seem like they put up a serious fight, particularly if it pushes Liverpool to increase their offer.
It’s reasonable to expect that the Reds will return to negotiations with a higher bid than £110 million, especially as Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has reported that Liverpool is not giving up yet.
Although some might think Isak’s return to Newcastle suggests an improvement in the player-club relationship, we at Empire of the Kop believe the opposite is more plausible. After all, Newcastle has already made a notable bid for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.
Therefore, it seems more likely that Alexander Isak has returned to England as part of possible negotiations between his current club and Liverpool, with the timing being quite suspicious!
As for how much Newcastle wants for Alexander Isak, reports suggest a hefty £150 million price tag. While this is a significant hurdle for Liverpool, it’s understandable given Isak’s profile in the Premier League. Nevertheless, we are confident that Richard Hughes and the recruitment team will negotiate this down to around £130 million to £140 million before the transfer window closes.
In the meantime, successfully acquiring Sesko from Newcastle would likely accelerate discussions with Liverpool.
