What Manchester City Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak Has Said to Pep Guardiola About His Future During the Winless Streak

Pep Guardiola only signed a new Manchester City contract one month ago but questions have been raised outside of the Etihad Stadium about his future given their terrible losing run.

Any other manager in world football might feel the heat after a run of nine defeats in 12 games and just one win during that stretch. Not Pep Guardiola.

The Manchester City manager has consistently maintained that he will honor his contracts unless his superiors decide otherwise. With six Premier League titles in seven years, including the last four consecutively, Guardiola’s position remains secure despite the poor run. This assurance persists even as Guardiola himself has admitted to falling short over the past two months.

Rival fans have mocked Guardiola by chanting “sacked in the morning” during City’s winless spell, and some pundits have speculated whether the downturn in results might lead him to step away. However, Guardiola has dismissed such notions, openly discussing his plans to rebuild the City squad between now and 2027.

Even so, Guardiola acknowledges that this challenging period is unlike anything he has experienced before. He draws comfort from his regular discussions with chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak, which have provided the support he needs to navigate this difficult phase.

“We speak every week, and I feel incredibly supported,” Guardiola said about his communication with Khaldoon. “We’ve been here before, but this feels different. Still, we know that if something goes wrong, decisions will be made. Khaldoon, Txiki, and Ferran have been incredibly supportive. We’re focused on improving the team and moving forward.”

Guardiola remains confident in his ability to find solutions, insisting that while doubts are natural, his optimism remains intact.

“I’m so positive,” he said. “Yes, there are doubts, but I’m confident. We’ve always turned the ordinary into the extraordinary. At the start of the season, everyone expected City to win the league. Now, losing this many games feels extraordinary, but there’s always a reason for it. Despite the challenges, I know we can turn it around—it’s just more difficult without all the players.”
