PSV 1-7 Arsenal: Arteta’s Side Sets Champions League Record with Dominant Away Win

Arsenal all but secured their place in the Champions League quarter-finals with a stunning 7-1 victory over PSV Eindhoven, making history as the first away team to score seven goals in a knockout stage match.
Despite recent struggles in front of goal—failing to score in three of their last four matches—Mikel Arteta’s side delivered an explosive performance, dismantling PSV with ruthless efficiency.
Jurrien Timber, 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri, and stand-in striker Mikel Merino gave the Gunners a commanding lead before halftime.
Though Noah Lang pulled one back for PSV from the penalty spot, Arsenal quickly reasserted their dominance. Martin Odegaard restored the three-goal advantage seconds after the restart, followed by Leandro Trossard netting moments later. Odegaard grabbed his second before Riccardo Calafiori completed the emphatic victory.
With such a commanding lead, the second leg at the Emirates Stadium appears to be a mere formality. Arsenal can now shift their focus to the quarter-finals, where they will face either Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid.

A visibly disappointed PSV boss admitted his team was completely outplayed:
“It was a terrible night for us. We had maybe two moments in the game, but football-wise, we had no chance.”
“Arsenal played fantastically, while we were poor. This is not the football we usually play. We had a plan, we analyzed them, and thought we could hurt them, but our defending was simply not good enough.”
“I never imagined losing by such a big margin. We have to accept it, but it’s tough.”
