Viktor Gyökeres has shared a message on social media amid ongoing transfer speculation linking him with Arsenal.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is aiming to strengthen his attacking lineup during the summer transfer window, with Gyökeres emerging as a primary target. The Swedish striker has been in exceptional form for Sporting CP, netting an impressive 52 goals in 50 appearances this season.
The need for a reliable number nine has been evident at Arsenal. Despite efforts to sign a striker in the January window, the club couldn’t secure a deal. Injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz have left Arsenal without a natural centre-forward for several months.
Gyökeres has long been on Arsenal’s radar, and recent reports suggest the club is close to finalizing personal terms with the 26-year-old.
According to claims, the deal involves a five-year contract worth around £175,000 per week. This follows reports that Arsenal submitted an initial bid of £63.5 million to Sporting for the striker.
Despite the transfer buzz, Gyökeres appears focused on finishing the season strong with Sporting. He was named in the starting lineup for their upcoming match against Vitoria in the Primeira Liga.
Arsenal isn’t the only club interested in Gyökeres—Manchester United and Chelsea are also reportedly monitoring him ahead of a potential summer move.
Speaking after last summer’s transfer window, Gyökeres commented: “They wanted to keep most of the starting players and were firm about it. That’s how things ended up, but I enjoy playing for Sporting so it wasn’t a problem to stay.”
He added, “Of course, you always want to play at the highest level.”
Gyökeres is said to have an £84 million release clause. Regarding that, he remarked: “It’s definitely a lot of money, but we’ll see what happens in the future windows.”
