Liverpool edged closer to clinching the Premier League title on Sunday afternoon, thanks to a late winner from Virgil van Dijk against West Ham United—and now, a video showing a fan’s quick thinking in the build-up has gone viral among supporters.
Van Dijk, captaining the team under Arne Slot’s debut season, secured all three points when he powerfully headed home an inch-perfect corner from Alexis Mac Allister—just minutes after being involved in a defensive error.
That earlier miscommunication between Van Dijk and Andy Robertson, following a dangerous cross from Aaron Wan-Bissaka, allowed West Ham to equalize with only four minutes left in normal time.
Knowing that Arsenal had dropped points in a 1-1 draw with Brentford the day before, the pressure was on Slot’s side to win. Van Dijk stepped up when it mattered most—but he got a helping hand from the stands.
Late in the match, West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola made a key save, pushing the ball into the home section of Anfield. That’s when a fan named Ali Hamidi acted swiftly, grabbing the ball and tossing it to Mac Allister to take a corner with time running out.
Hamidi later posted the moment to Instagram. His rapid reaction didn’t go unnoticed—former striker Bobby Zamora praised him in the comments, and Liverpool fans celebrated his sharp instincts.
