Virgil van Dijk was seen speaking with PSG officials after Tuesday night’s game, sparking concerns among fans about his future at Liverpool.
However, as reported by Arthur Perrot and Fabrice Hawkins for RMC Sport, it turns out that instead of discussing a potential transfer or contract talks, Van Dijk was actually apologizing for a comment he made during the first leg of the Champions League tie in Paris.
After PSG’s sporting advisor Luis Campos lashed out at halftime during that match, Van Dijk had remarked, “this isn’t Ligue 1,” in an attempt to calm him down over refereeing complaints, particularly about Ibrahima Konaté not being sent off after a collision with Bradley Barcola.
In the conversation at Anfield, Van Dijk not only expressed his regret for those words but also praised PSG, saying they were not just the best team Liverpool faced this season but the strongest side he’s played against in the past three years. They also reviewed moments from the game, and PSG’s management appreciated his gesture.
So, rather than plotting a move to Paris, Van Dijk was showing respect and sportsmanship—an act of class from Liverpool’s captain.
