Two Manchester United legends’ shirts are permanently showcased in Liverpool’s away dressing room at Anfield for an intriguing reason.

Posted on January 31, 2025 By Dailynewsupdate No Comments on Two Manchester United legends’ shirts are permanently showcased in Liverpool’s away dressing room at Anfield for an intriguing reason.

Despite the intense rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester United, Anfield houses the jerseys of two United legends.

Liverpool and United have historically dominated English football, securing a combined total of 39 league titles and nine European Cups. In recent years, however, Liverpool has held the upper hand, while United has struggled since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure.

Despite the current disparity in performance, the fixture between the two remains one of the most highly anticipated clashes in English football.

Interestingly, the away dressing room at Anfield permanently displays the shirts of two United greats—Roy Keane and Cristiano Ronaldo. Liverpool fans touring the stadium may notice their jerseys alongside those of several footballing icons.

According to The Echo, the decision to include their shirts came from former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, who selected them as two of the toughest opponents he ever faced.

On non-match days, while the home dressing room features the current squad’s shirts, Liverpool opts to showcase jerseys of some of the greatest players to have played at Anfield. Other names featured include Lionel Messi, Thierry Henry, Gianluigi Buffon, and Fabio Cannavaro.

Carragher has previously been critical of Ronaldo, arguing that he falls short of Messi’s level despite their frequent comparisons. However, in a conversation with Football365 last year, he acknowledged Ronaldo’s greatness, particularly his transformation into an elite goal scorer.

“Ronaldo became a great player at United,” Carragher remarked. “In his last two years, he was the main man. But initially, United had so many stars that he wasn’t someone you built a team talk around. He never really gave us too many problems.”

Carragher also expressed admiration for Ronaldo’s evolution, stating, “It fascinates me—he wasn’t always a natural goal scorer. Most great goal scorers have that instinct from childhood, but Ronaldo developed it through sheer work ethic and mental strength. That, to me, has always been his greatest asset.”
