Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold is reportedly in line for a massive sign-on bonus if he decides to join Real Madrid.
Arne Slot’s team has had an impressive start to the 2024/25 campaign, currently leading both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League standings.
The Reds are also on track to defend their Carabao Cup title as they prepare for semi-final clashes against Tottenham Hotspur.
However, their outstanding form this season has been overshadowed by reports linking Alexander-Arnold to a potential move to La Liga giants Real Madrid.
The 26-year-old’s current contract with Liverpool is set to expire at the end of the season, allowing him to leave on a free transfer and sign with any club of his choice.
Recent reports have claimed that Alexander-Arnold has made a “final decision” regarding his Liverpool future.
On New Year’s Eve, it was reported that Real Madrid had approached Liverpool about signing Alexander-Arnold in January, but their offer was rejected.
According to the Daily Mail, Madrid is expected to make another attempt in the coming weeks. Manager Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly eager to accelerate efforts to bring Alexander-Arnold to the Spanish capital.
The Sun claims that Alexander-Arnold could receive a £100 million payday if he leaves Liverpool for Madrid. The report notes that Real Madrid is willing to offer a significant pay increase on his £180,000-a-week salary at Liverpool, with the signing-on bonus being a major financial incentive. While the deal would not rival Kylian Mbappé’s £192 million package, Alexander-Arnold would still become one of the highest-paid players in the world.
Meanwhile, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk and star forward Mohamed Salah also face uncertain futures as their contracts are set to expire this summer. However, there is optimism that both players will extend their stays at Anfield.
Speaking after Liverpool’s 5-0 victory over West Ham United, manager Arne Slot said: “I don’t think I need to say much more about it. I’m really happy with Trent, just as I am with Mo and Virgil.”
Liverpool will return to action this Sunday when they host Manchester United at Anfield.
