Tottenham have been encouraged to pursue Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott following his standout performances for England’s U21s this summer. The ex-Fulham youngster has impressed at the Euros, netting four goals, including a decisive brace against the Netherlands to secure a spot in the final versus Germany.
Former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara believes Elliott would be a great alternative to Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, who is reportedly a transfer target for Arsenal. Speaking to talkSPORT, O’Hara said: “I’d definitely take him at Tottenham. He could play on the right, offering competition for Brennan Johnson and Dejan Kulusevski. While Kulusevski is a similar type of player, Elliott brings something different. He’s versatile – he can play as a No.10 or deeper in midfield – and at just 22, he has plenty of potential. He’s good enough to feature for a club competing in Europe.”
Elliott’s long-term future at Liverpool is uncertain. With only two years left on his current deal and limited starts under new boss Arne Slot last season, questions have been raised about his role.
Earlier this month, Elliott addressed the issue, saying: “It’s something my team and I need to discuss. I’m turning 23 next season, and I don’t want to waste important years of my career. It’s a short career, and anything can happen – injuries, setbacks. I need to reflect and decide if I’m happy with my current situation and what I need to do to improve, because that’s what matters most.”
