Jeremie Frimpong is already looking like a smart summer acquisition for Liverpool.
The Reds brought in the Dutch international from Bayer Leverkusen in May, activating his €35m (£29.5m) release clause.
After an encouraging pre-season under Arne Slot, the 24-year-old right-back has seamlessly adapted to Liverpool’s starting lineup.
Frimpong adds blistering speed to Liverpool’s right side
While he was never expected to be a direct replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold in terms of creativity — a role more fitting for someone like Florian Wirtz — Frimpong still offers plenty going forward.
Though he may not match Trent’s elite playmaking vision, he more than compensates with explosive pace and energy.
In fact, according to TNT Sports, the Dutch fullback hit a top speed of 36.1km/h in his Premier League debut against Bournemouth — the highest of any player that matchweek.
How does Frimpong’s speed measure up across the league?
BBC Sport previously reported that Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven posted the fastest sprint in the 2024/25 season at 37.1km/h (23.1 mph). Frimpong’s speed, while impressive, still places him just outside last season’s top five:

That said, Frimpong has only played one Premier League game so far, and there’s plenty of time for him to climb the rankings.
With fellow new signing Milos Kerkez providing similar pace and width on the opposite flank, Liverpool now boasts serious speed on both sides of the pitch — a valuable asset heading into the 2025/26 season.
Don’t be surprised if Frimpong breaks into the top five fastest players list before the campaign ends.
