“‘This is extraordinary’ – Gary Neville left stunned by Liverpool star’s ‘world-class’ display”

Gary Neville was left amazed by a ‘special’ moment from a Liverpool player during their win over Arsenal this afternoon.

The first hour at Anfield was fairly dull, with both teams cautious and hesitant to take risks. However, in the last 30 minutes, Liverpool gradually increased the pressure.

The game’s turning point came in the 83rd minute when Liverpool earned a free kick about 35 yards from goal. Dominik Szoboszlai struck it brilliantly into the top corner, leaving Arsenal’s goalkeeper David Raya helpless.

Neville was left speechless by Szoboszlai’s ‘world-class’ free kick. As a Sky Sports co-commentator, he said, “He was already my man of the match before that goal – he’s been exceptional, and scoring from there is something else. The Arsenal keeper couldn’t believe it.

“This is something special. The whip, the dip, the power, and speed – it had it all. It was world-class, Cristiano Ronaldo-level.”

Szoboszlai’s overall performance was outstanding throughout the match. That stunning free kick sealed all three points at Anfield and will steal the headlines, but Neville was also quick to praise the Hungarian midfielder’s broader contributions.

Before the goal, Szoboszlai played an incredible long-range diagonal pass to Florian Wirtz—an early candidate for Premier League pass of the season—though the chance didn’t result in a goal.

According to Sofascore, the 24-year-old completed 49 of 52 passes (92%), won 75% of his duels, delivered five accurate long balls, and made one key pass. Defensively, despite playing out of position at right-back, he made six clearances, two tackles, and one interception.

Having impressed as a makeshift defender in last Monday’s win at Newcastle, Szoboszlai outdid himself today with his overall display and that breathtaking free kick to settle a tight, tense game.

Even a dedicated Manchester United fan like Neville couldn’t help but applaud that performance—and rightly so.
