Surprise Interest in Alexander Isak Emerges After Liverpool Bid Rejected
A surprise twist unfolded in the Alexander Isak transfer saga, as an unexpected club reportedly made an enquiry for the Swedish striker shortly after Liverpool had a bid turned down.
Isak, who has been the focus of major transfer speculation lately due to his desire to leave Newcastle, received a formal offer from Liverpool on Friday. The bid, said to be around £110 million, followed earlier talks and came as Liverpool continue their summer spree, having already brought in Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi, and Hugo Ekitike.
Newcastle rejected Liverpool’s offer outright and remain hopeful that they can convince their star forward to stay, despite his clear intention to move on. Not long after the rejection, several reports indicated Liverpool were unwilling to increase their offer and were prepared to walk away.
Manchester United Enter the Picture
In a surprising development, Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg revealed that Manchester United have been tracking the situation closely and have even reached out about a potential move for Isak. However, the player is said to have declined United’s interest, making it clear he only wants a move to the Premier League champions, Liverpool.
Plettenberg further stated that Isak has already agreed personal terms with Liverpool on a contract running until 2031. Despite this, Newcastle are holding firm in their stance and are reluctant to sell.
Although Newcastle hope to reach a solution that keeps Isak at the club for the upcoming season, the striker’s camp remains optimistic that a deal can still be reached.
Currently, Isak is not part of Newcastle’s pre-season tour due to what the club has described as a minor thigh issue. Instead, he’s been training alone at former club Real Sociedad.
Speaking from Seoul, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe gave an update following comments from teammate Anthony Gordon, saying:
“I know where he is mostly from the media. It’s a tricky and less-than-ideal situation, and it’s quite complicated.”
“I was only informed of the bid on Friday, and it was rejected before I even had a chance to respond. The people back in England are handling things. I’m not sure what comes next, but we continue to support Alex fully and I still hope to see him in a Newcastle shirt again.”
