Spurs standout gives green light to departure as European side lodge January offer

Roma have reportedly reached a personal agreement with Tottenham Hotspur defender Radu Dragusin over a return to Italy, according to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano.

The Serie A side are continuing negotiations with Tottenham this month, with discussions ongoing between the two clubs regarding a possible transfer. While Fiorentina are also interested in the Romania international, Roma are currently leading the race and have already received approval from the player.

Dragusin is understood to have informed Tottenham that he is open to the move, two years after joining the North London club from Genoa. Speaking on his Italian YouTube channel, Romano confirmed that Roma have made strong progress in talks and already have an agreement in place with the defender, adding that direct contact has been established between Roma and Spurs.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has also reported that Roma have submitted an initial proposal to Tottenham, seeking to sign Dragusin on loan with an option to buy.

The 23-year-old has played only five minutes of Premier League football this season after missing the early part of the campaign with an ACL injury. His only league appearance came in last month’s 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace, his first outing for the club in nearly a year.

Since arriving in January 2024, Dragusin has made 38 appearances for Tottenham, including 18 Premier League starts. If he departs, Spurs would be left with Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Kevin Danso and Ben Davies as their available centre-backs, with Davies’ contract due to expire at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have agreed a deal to sign Santos left-back Souza as their first addition of the January transfer window. GIVEMESPORT senior reporter Ben Jacobs reports that the clubs have settled on a fee of around £15 million, with the player expected to travel to England for a medical in the coming days.

Spurs moved for Souza after another injury setback for Destiny Udogie, who has made only six Premier League starts this season. Djed Spence has filled in at left-back during Udogie’s absence.
