Liverpool are reportedly willing to entertain offers of £50-60 million for struggling striker Darwin Nunez, according to sources close to Football Insider.
In the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke suggested that Newcastle’s potential interest in Nunez should be taken seriously amidst ongoing speculation about his future at Anfield. However, it is believed that Newcastle are unlikely to pursue him, as he is not among Eddie Howe’s targets for the upcoming transfer window.
Nunez, 25, has scored just four goals in 23 matches across all competitions this season, leading to questions about his long-term place in the team. Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota, and Luis Diaz have often been selected over him, with Nunez making half of his Premier League appearances as a substitute.
The reports linking Nunez to Newcastle come amid uncertainty about Alexander Isak’s future, with the Swedish striker attracting interest from top European clubs.
Despite the speculation, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider that a move to Newcastle is “absolutely not” going to happen.
Nunez, who joined Liverpool from Benfica in 2022 for a club-record fee of up to £85 million, has had a mixed tenure with the Reds. His first season was marred by missed opportunities, and recent struggles in front of goal have raised doubts about his future at the club.
A transfer fee of £50-60 million would enable Liverpool to recoup a significant portion of the money spent to bring Nunez to Anfield. As such, any offers in that range are likely to be considered, as the club could use the funds to strengthen their squad.
Liverpool are reportedly looking to sign a new center-back and midfielder either in January or at the end of the season, and a major sale would enhance their financial capacity to make these signings.
Meanwhile, Newcastle are planning to sell Miguel Almiron and acquire a new winger.
