Slot explains why Isak won’t feature in every match following record-breaking Liverpool transfer.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that record signing Alexander Isak will be gradually integrated into the team, stressing that the £125 million striker won’t be playing full matches right away.

Isak joined Liverpool from Newcastle United on transfer deadline day, and Slot described completing the deal as the highlight of his summer.

“A lot happened on the final day,” Slot said. “But the best part for me was securing Alex. Credit goes to Richard [Hughes], the owners, and everyone involved. It’s a great outcome for the club, the fans, and the squad.”

The 25-year-old Swedish striker, who netted 27 goals for Newcastle last season, needs careful handling due to his current fitness levels. Slot also acknowledged Sweden’s national coach, Jon Dahl Tomasson, for not overusing Isak during the international break.

“He deserves huge praise for managing Alex properly,” Slot said. “He could’ve played him for two full games, but knew that could’ve led to injury.”

Why Isak Won’t Be a 90-Minute Starter Yet

Isak missed most of pre-season, and Slot made it clear that he won’t be playing full games in the immediate future.

“You shouldn’t expect to see him playing 90 minutes every match just yet,” Slot explained. “We’ve brought him in for the long term — he’s here for six years, not just the next few weeks.”

Although Isak has admitted he’s not yet at peak fitness, his early return from international duty highlights his commitment to getting match-ready quickly. With Hugo Ekitike already performing well, there’s less pressure on Isak to play every game right away.

Slot added that he hasn’t had much time to speak with Isak due to his international commitments, but is already well aware of the striker’s quality.

“We’ve faced him before, and he’s a top-level player,” he said.

With both Isak and Florian Wirtz joining this summer, Liverpool now boasts one of the most exciting and valuable attacking lineups in Europe. But Slot emphasized the importance of building Isak’s readiness carefully to ensure long-term success.
