Liverpool have made significant progress in their pursuit of Hugo Ekitike, with Sky Sports reporting that a £69 million fee has been agreed with Eintracht Frankfurt for the French striker.
Discussions are still ongoing regarding performance-related add-ons, which could raise the total cost to £78 million. However, both clubs remain optimistic that the deal will be completed soon.
Liverpool shifted their focus to the 23-year-old after it became evident that Newcastle had no intention of selling Alexander Isak, firmly keeping hold of their No.14.
This led to swift action from the Reds’ recruitment department. According to Sky Sports, Ekitike prefers a move to Liverpool, despite interest from other clubs, including Newcastle.
The striker was left out of Frankfurt’s recent friendly against FSV Frankfurt, and their manager admitted to Sky Germany that Ekitike’s departure would be a “bitter loss.”

Ekitike had a standout 2024/25 season, netting 22 goals in 48 appearances and helping Frankfurt qualify for the Champions League.
He joined from PSG midway through the previous season and has since developed into one of the Bundesliga’s most versatile and effective young forwards, excelling primarily as a central striker but capable across the front line.
His signing would mark Liverpool’s second high-profile acquisition from the Bundesliga this summer, following the £116 million capture of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

With Darwin Nunez linked to potential moves to Napoli and Saudi Arabia, Ekitike could emerge as a fresh option at No.9.
His addition would also bolster Liverpool’s attacking depth, especially with ongoing external interest in Luis Diaz.
Although final agreement on the bonus structure is still pending, if completed, the deal would be another significant win for Arne Slot in his second summer transfer window.
