Bayern Munich have made a move for Luis Diaz, prompting a swift response from Liverpool.
The Colombian winger, aged 28, is attracting significant attention this summer, with Barcelona and Al-Hilal previously showing interest. Now, Bayern Munich have joined the race. According to Sport Bild on Tuesday evening, the German champions have made a formal approach for Diaz, and the player is reportedly open to a potential switch to the Allianz Arena.
However, Liverpool have quickly shut down Bayern’s interest. In the early hours of Wednesday, Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas reported that the Reds rejected the initial proposal from the Bundesliga side and made it abundantly clear that Diaz is not available for transfer.
Thomas stated: “Liverpool have turned down an approach from Bayern Munich for Luis Diaz. Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl has been informed that the 28-year-old is not on the market. No further talks have taken place.”
This is the second time this transfer window that Liverpool have taken a similar stance, having also dismissed interest from Barcelona. The club’s position remains firm: Diaz is not for sale. Liverpool’s leadership sees him as a crucial part of the squad moving forward and a key contributor for upcoming seasons.
Diaz a Crucial Asset for Liverpool
Liverpool’s resolute position makes sense considering Diaz’s key role in their successful Premier League campaign last season. He notched 13 league goals and 17 in total across all competitions.
At 28, with two years left on his current contract, Diaz is expected to remain a core figure under Arne Slot. If he delivers another standout season in 2025/26, Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes would be wise to secure his future with a contract extension, avoiding the risk of a future free transfer.
Bayern could yet return with another offer, but Liverpool’s firm rejection should serve as a strong deterrent. The Merseyside club appear unwilling to even consider parting with their number 7.
Diaz’s value extends far beyond his goals. According to FBref stats, he ranked second in the squad for expected goals (xG) in domestic competitions (12), had the highest shot-on-target percentage among the forwards (42.3%), tied for second in key passes (56) and goal-creating actions (16), and also completed 53 take-ons—the second most in the team.
With those numbers, it’s clear why Liverpool are holding firm. Any club hoping to lure Diaz away from Anfield is likely wasting their time.
