As the summer transfer window nears its close, one Liverpool player continues to draw interest from abroad.
Kostas Tsimikas has been the subject of exit rumours, with The Athletic recently reporting that the 29-year-old is “expected to leave” Anfield before the transfer deadline next Monday. The Greek international is reportedly keen on joining a club competing in Europe, rather than moving to another Premier League side.
Marseille are believed to be eyeing a move for Tsimikas, but they may now face competition, with Italian sources reporting renewed interest from Serie A.
Roma enter the race for Tsimikas with loan approach
According to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, AS Roma have opened discussions with Liverpool about a possible loan move for Tsimikas. The Italian club is looking to strengthen their options at left-back alongside former Manchester City player Angelino.
Talks between the two clubs are underway, and more clarity on whether a deal is feasible is expected in the coming days. However, the report also notes that finalising the move may prove challenging for the Giallorossi.
Where will Tsimikas end up when the window closes?
Since Milos Kerkez joined Liverpool in June, Tsimikas has slipped to third-choice left-back behind the new arrival and Andy Robertson. This has led to widespread speculation about his future.
Tsimikas was left out of the matchday squads for recent fixtures against Crystal Palace and Bournemouth, further suggesting he’s not in Arne Slot’s immediate plans.
While Roma can’t offer Champions League football (they’ll be playing in the Europa League), they could still be a backup option if a deal with Marseille doesn’t come through. A loan move may be less appealing considering his contract runs out next summer.
Overall, Marseille seem the frontrunners for Tsimikas’ signature, though Roma appear ready to step in should that deal fall through. If the popular “Greek Scouser” does depart Anfield in the coming days, the hope is that he finds a club where he’ll play regularly and be just as valued by fans as he has been at Liverpool.
