Former Liverpool winger Ben Doak will now have a different name on his shirt following his £25 million move to Bournemouth. The 19-year-old Scottish international, who joined from Anfield in a bid to secure more consistent Premier League minutes, has chosen to go by Gannon Doak at his new club.
Doak began his career in Celtic’s youth setup before moving to Liverpool in 2022. While he showed promise during a loan spell at Middlesbrough—scoring three goals and assisting seven—his time with Liverpool’s first team was limited to just 10 appearances, with no goals or assists. Now, he’s signed a five-year contract with Bournemouth in hopes of cementing his place in top-flight football.
At Bournemouth, the winger will wear the number 11 shirt. More notably, he’s opted to include his middle name, Gannon, on his kit to honor both sides of his family.
The club referred to him as Gannon Doak in their official announcement, which reflects the player’s personal decision to embrace his full name moving forward.
Speaking after the move, Doak expressed excitement:
> “I’m buzzing to be here. I feel like it’s the right time for me and it’s a great opportunity to play regular football at the highest level. It feels like the perfect fit. The team plays fast, attractive football that suits my style, so I couldn’t turn it down.”
Despite his youth, Gannon Doak has already earned six senior caps for Scotland, contributing one assist.
Bournemouth’s Head of Football Operations, Tiago Pinto, praised the signing:
> “Ben is an exciting young talent who has already shown his abilities at the top level. His speed and energy align with our playing style, and we’re looking forward to helping him grow here.”
Bournemouth will face Wolves at home in their next league match, following an opening-day defeat to Doak’s former side, Liverpool.
