Amid talk of Arsenal targeting a proven goalscorer this summer, former Manchester United midfielder and current pundit Roy Keane has highlighted one player he believes could have ended the Gunners’ two-decade Premier League title drought this season.
Much has been said about Mikel Arteta’s side lacking a consistent central striker, especially after Kai Havertz’s season-ending injury deepened their issues up front. While Mikel Merino, traditionally a midfielder, has stepped up effectively in the role, Arteta’s focus heading into the summer is clear: signing a top-class striker is a major priority.
This absence of a clinical finisher is seen as a key factor separating Arsenal from current title contenders like Manchester City, who have Erling Haaland, and Liverpool, who rely heavily on Mohamed Salah’s brilliance.
Following Salah’s Player of the Match performance in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over West Ham, Keane praised the Egyptian star and claimed that his presence at Arsenal would have clinched them the title this season.
“There’s no question he’s a top professional and a great role model for younger players,” Keane said, praising Salah’s consistent performances. “He delivers every week — goals, assists. If he were in the Arsenal squad, they’d be champions this season. That’s how exceptional he is.”
Despite his Manchester United ties, Keane expressed satisfaction that Salah signed a new two-year deal to stay at Liverpool, extending his stay to a decade. “I’m glad they kept him. You want world-class players in the Premier League,” he added.
Reflecting on Salah’s professionalism, Keane described him as a “fitness freak” and a “special player,” emphasizing the importance of keeping unique talents like him, even when clubs are reassessing contracts and squad changes.
Salah’s impact in the 2024/25 campaign has been phenomenal under new manager Arne Slot, racking up 32 goals and 23 assists across all competitions in one of the most outstanding individual seasons in recent memory.
