According to the Liverpool ECHO, Liverpool players are set to return to the AXA Training Centre on Tuesday, July 8, to begin pre-season preparations following the heartbreaking deaths of Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva.
The club had originally planned to start training earlier, but delayed the schedule out of respect after the two brothers tragically died in a car crash in Spain.
Most of manager Arne Slot’s first-team squad traveled to Gondomar for the funeral on July 5, where they paid their respects and mourned the loss of Jota and Silva.
Liverpool’s first pre-season match is currently scheduled for Sunday, July 13, against Preston North End at Deepdale. However, the club has yet to confirm whether the fixture will go ahead. A final decision is expected after discussions with players and staff once training resumes.
Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister has spoken out in his defense following criticism over his absence at Jota’s funeral, calling it a reflection of a “sick society.”
Trent Alexander-Arnold also paid tribute to Jota, saying, “He lit up every room he entered.”
