Report: Newcastle remains interested in the 25-year-old star, but the player prefers a move to Liverpool.

Newcastle United is reportedly interested in signing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi during the upcoming summer transfer window.

However, former Premier League scout Mick Brown has revealed that Guehi prefers a move to Liverpool instead, which is a significant setback for Newcastle, who are in need of a solid defender.

Newcastle’s defense was exposed last season, highlighting the need for reinforcements in that area. At 25 years old, Guehi has proven himself as a dependable Premier League player and would have greatly strengthened Newcastle’s backline.

Setback for Newcastle in Guehi pursuit
“Newcastle are aiming to bring in a new defender,” Brown told Football Insider.
“Most of their current focus is on finding a striker due to the uncertainty surrounding Isak, but they have been targeting a centre-back since last summer when they missed out on Guehi. They hesitated over his valuation last year, causing the deal to collapse. From what I understand, their interest in Guehi remains, but the player prefers to join Liverpool.”

Guehi is entering the final year of his contract with Palace and is expected to leave before the summer window closes. It will be interesting to see whether Newcastle or Liverpool can agree on a reasonable fee, as neither side wants to overpay for a player who will be a free agent next summer.

Liverpool’s interest in Marc Guehi

The 25-year-old defender is keen to join a top club where he can regularly compete for trophies, making Liverpool an attractive option. Given Liverpool’s need for a reliable central defender, especially with Joe Gomez’s ongoing injury issues, Guehi could be a perfect fit. The coming weeks will reveal whether Liverpool can finalize a deal, but Crystal Palace will need to keep their asking price realistic for the transfer to happen.
