Manchester United are reportedly trying to intercept Liverpool’s pursuit of a shared transfer target in the final days of the transfer window.
Arne Slot’s team has been strongly linked with a move for Marc Guehi as they look to bolster their thin centre-back options before the September 1 deadline. Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has indicated he wants the 25-year-old’s future resolved soon, as Guehi enters the final year of his contract.
However, reports on Monday evening suggest Liverpool could be outpaced by their rivals.

According to Steve Kay from Football Transfers, Manchester United have officially approached Crystal Palace about Guehi, attempting to lure the England defender away from Liverpool’s grasp.
It’s believed the Old Trafford club has made initial inquiries to find out Crystal Palace’s asking price, with the centre-back valued at around £40 million (per Sami Mokbel, BBC Sport).
Meanwhile, DAVEOCKOP reported (via X) that Liverpool are set to hold talks with the 25-year-old this week, and the player reportedly prefers a move to Anfield if he leaves Palace.

If Liverpool lose out on a defender of Guehi’s proven quality to their rivals—especially after finishing last season with more than twice the points of 15th-placed Man United—it would be a major embarrassment for FSG, given the team’s urgent need for defensive reinforcements.
Though United’s interest is still at an exploratory stage, this news should push Liverpool’s transfer chief Richard Hughes into swift action to avoid losing out to their biggest rivals.
Even though Ruben Amorim’s side performed poorly in 2024/25, they remain capable of attracting high-profile players like Benjamin Sesko, who Liverpool were previously linked with before signing Hugo Ekitike and making an offer for Alexander Isak.
Simply put, Liverpool cannot risk missing out on Guehi—especially after their defensive struggles against Palace in the recent Community Shield.
