Chelsea does not consider Marc Guehi a primary target as the January transfer window approaches.
The Crystal Palace defender, whose contract expires at the end of the season, has been strongly linked with a move away. Liverpool attempted to sign him during the summer, but the deal fell through. Despite being linked to several clubs, Chelsea aren’t particularly interested in bringing him back, according to TEAMtalk.
Although Chelsea clearly need more defensive options—especially with Levi Colwill out for most of the season due to an ACL injury and Benoit Badiashile only recently returning from a long absence—the club has chosen not to prioritize Guehi. At 25, the Englishman would be a valuable addition given his Premier League experience and familiarity with Chelsea’s academy system, which could allow him to make an immediate impact.
Guehi’s quality would benefit any team, and securing him at a reasonable price would be difficult to resist. Liverpool might renew their interest in January, as the player is in his prime and eager to join a top club. Both Chelsea and Liverpool need strong defenders, making Guehi a sensible option.
It remains to be seen if Chelsea will reconsider their position and pursue him when the transfer window opens. Given their defensive needs, Guehi could prove to be an ideal fit.
