“Reason for Diogo Jota’s funeral being held shortly after the Liverpool star’s tragic passing revealed”

Diogo Jota’s funeral is set to take place just two days after he and his brother, Andre Silva, tragically lost their lives in a car accident, it has been confirmed.

The brothers were killed in the early hours of Thursday morning following a crash in Zamora, in northwestern Spain, while traveling to Santander. Their green Lamborghini reportedly blew a tire while overtaking on the A52, causing the car to burst into flames. Both were declared dead at the scene, according to the Zamora Provincial Council.

Jota’s untimely death comes only ten days after he married his longtime partner, Rute Cardoso, the mother of his three children.

Autopsies were carried out at a forensic facility in Zamora, and later that day, hearses were seen arriving at a funeral home in Puebla de Sanabria.

According to several sources, preparations for the funeral are already underway. Local priest Jose Manuel Macedo stated that a wake will be held at the Sao Cosme Chapel, around 30 minutes from Jota’s hometown of Porto. The wake is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday, followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Igreja Matriz de Gondomar, near the location of Jota’s recent wedding. The brothers will be buried in the local cemetery, as reported by beIN Sports.

“The bodies will arrive at the resurrection chapel for tomorrow’s wake, and the funeral will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday,” Macedo told CNN Portugal, adding that the community is welcome to join in mourning and remembrance.

In Portugal, funerals typically occur within 48 hours of death and are often accompanied by Catholic traditions, including a wake and a period of mourning marked by wearing black.

It remains unclear whether the funeral will be a public or private event, or which of Jota’s teammates may attend.

Tributes have poured in from the football world, including messages from Cristiano Ronaldo, Jurgen Klopp, Arne Slot, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Andy Robertson, all expressing their sorrow.

Liverpool FC has announced plans to honor Jota’s legacy, with his No. 20 shirt likely to be retired in his memory. The 28-year-old forward scored 65 goals during his time at Anfield, securing two Carabao Cups, the FA Cup, and a Premier League title.
