Rayan Cherki has reportedly made his choice between Liverpool and Manchester City amid ongoing transfer rumors.
The young French talent has garnered significant attention following an impressive season with Lyon in Ligue 1, where he netted 12 goals in 44 appearances across all competitions.
Manchester City have been closely monitoring Cherki as they aim to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming Club World Cup in the United States. Liverpool, the reigning Premier League champions, have also shown interest, with new manager Arne Slot even cutting short his holiday to meet Cherki personally.
However, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg, the 21-year-old has opted to join Manchester City. He is expected to sign a contract running until 2030, with a transfer fee estimated between £29 million and £34 million.
Plettenberg noted that agreeing on personal terms was never a hurdle, and Cherki’s representatives are now aiming for a swift finalization and official announcement.
Having come through Lyon’s youth academy and spent his entire career at the club, Cherki feels ready to take the next step.
“I’m prepared for any system. I train daily, both physically and mentally, to be ready,” he told L’Equipe. “More than anything, I want to make the best choice for my growth—both as a player and as a person.”
Reflecting on his time at Lyon, Cherki added: “You can never be completely certain of anything. But I’ll say this: I achieved what I set out to do at OL. I gave my all for my club and stayed through tough times. I cried, laughed, and felt fear—but those experiences shape a man. Even when it’s tough, even through tears and fear, you fight for your club.”
Cherki isn’t the only new face potentially arriving at the Etihad. Manchester City are also close to securing a deal for Tijjani Reijnders, having reached an agreement with AC Milan for the Dutch midfielder worth £46.3 million.
