Cody Gakpo Responds to Bayern Munich Transfer Rumors
In recent days, rumors have surfaced suggesting that Cody Gakpo could be on Bayern Munich’s radar for a potential summer transfer.
According to Christian Falk via Bayern Insider, the Liverpool forward has become a possible target for the reigning Bundesliga champions. Similarly, journalist Florian Plettenberg reported on X (formerly Twitter) that Gakpo might be “viewed as a potential departure candidate” if a suitable offer is received.
Earlier this week, Empire of the Kop exclusively revealed that Liverpool’s management have placed a €100 million (£84.2m) price tag on the Dutch international. Despite this valuation, the club is reportedly not interested in selling him this summer, even though internal discussions continue at Bayern regarding a potential move for the former PSV Eindhoven star.
Gakpo Downplays Exit Talk
Speaking ahead of the Netherlands’ World Cup qualifier against Finland, Gakpo addressed the transfer speculation. As quoted by GOAL, he dismissed the rumors, saying: “I haven’t heard anything about it myself. I’m shutting it out. Maybe my agent has heard something, but I’m just focused on myself.”
Signs Point to Gakpo Staying at Anfield
Gakpo’s remarks are reassuring for Liverpool fans, especially when compared to recent comments made by Luis Diaz. The Colombian winger confirmed that his representatives have been in discussions with other clubs, calling such negotiations “normal” during the transfer window.
There appears to be little reason for Gakpo to pursue a move away from Merseyside, particularly following an impressive campaign in which he netted 18 goals across all competitions and featured in every Premier League match he was available for, helping Liverpool secure the league title (Transfermarkt).
Providing further encouragement to Liverpool supporters, Falk reported on Friday that Gakpo is open to signing a new contract at the club. Meanwhile, Bayern are now said to be considering other transfer options.
Much credit is due to new Liverpool manager Arne Slot, who has reinstated Gakpo in his preferred position on the left flank—a change that has revitalized his form after being used in a central role under Jurgen Klopp.
