According to reports, Pep Guardiola is planning a £120 million triple transfer for Manchester City during the January transfer window.
City recently returned to winning form with a 2-0 victory over Leicester City on December 29, courtesy of goals from Savinho and Erling Haaland. This marked only their second win in 10 Premier League games. Currently sitting sixth in the league and four points behind Chelsea, City will face West Ham at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
Although City are gradually regaining injured players, the squad’s ageing profile suggests the club may be active in the January market. A number of potential targets have been mentioned, but reports indicate City have identified three players they believe could make a significant impact.
Top priorities include bolstering the midfield and attack. According to The Sun, City are considering a double swoop for Atalanta’s Ederson and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush. Ederson, a 25-year-old Brazilian midfielder, is seen as an ideal replacement for Rodri, who is sidelined with an ACL injury. Rodri’s absence has contributed to City’s struggles this season. Ederson has been in exceptional form for Atalanta, who currently lead Serie A under Gianpiero Gasperini.
Meanwhile, Egyptian forward Marmoush has been prolific for Frankfurt, scoring 18 goals in 24 matches across all competitions. Previously linked with Arsenal and Liverpool, Marmoush also attracted bids from Nottingham Forest in the summer, which were ultimately rejected. Both Ederson and Marmoush are valued at around £50 million each.
Additionally, City are reportedly interested in RC Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov. The Uzbekistan international, valued at £20 million, is being monitored as a solution to the club’s defensive injury woes, according to the Manchester Evening News.
However, Guardiola remains uncertain about January transfers, acknowledging the challenges of mid-season recruitment. In a press conference, he said:
“I don’t know right now. It’s not easy; maybe we’ll sign players, or maybe we won’t. The club needs to be smart—not sign just for the sake of it. But given our injury issues, it’s something the club will have to consider.”
