Paul Merson outlines the points Liverpool need from their next two games to all but secure the title.

Liverpool are currently seven points ahead of Arsenal in the Premier League title race, and former Arsenal player Paul Merson believes their upcoming matches against Aston Villa and Manchester City will be crucial in determining the outcome of the title battle.

Although Liverpool secured a 2-1 victory over Wolves, Merson noted that they appeared “nervy,” and they also dropped points in their previous match against Everton. Now, Liverpool faces two tough away games within five days: first against Villa on Wednesday and then against City on Sunday. Merson believes that if Liverpool can earn at least four points from these two fixtures, they could effectively seal the title.

Merson told Sky Sports, “The key for Liverpool right now is to keep winning. They were nervous against Wolves, but they got the job done. The game against Aston Villa is crucial as it marks the start of a series of tough matches for Arne Slot’s team.”

He added, “The next two games will be pivotal in deciding the title race. If Liverpool can earn a point or two from these away trips, it will keep things alive. But if they manage to get four points, that would almost secure the title for them.”

When asked about the importance of this week’s matches, Slot responded, “There are still 13 games left, and the next one is the most important. Facing Villa away will be another tough challenge for us, as it is for every team. They have an excellent home record, especially in evening games, so we know it will be a tough match. However, we’ve had a decent away record this season, and we’re looking forward to the challenge.”
