Jurgen Klopp Ruled Out as Forest Eye Brendan Rodgers for Potential Managerial Change
Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been unexpectedly linked with a return to management amid speculation that Nottingham Forest might dismiss current manager Nuno Espirito Santo following a recent controversial outburst. Klopp stepped away from coaching two years ago, citing exhaustion, a move similar to his departure from Borussia Dortmund before he took on the challenge of rebuilding Liverpool. During his time at Anfield, he won both the Champions League and ended a 30-year wait for a Premier League title. Since taking up a role as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer, Klopp has continued to be mentioned in connection with high-profile managerial vacancies.
There are growing reports of internal instability at Nottingham Forest, but the club still presents an attractive opportunity. The team has seen significant investment in recent transfer windows and even qualified for the Europa League last season. Despite recent links to Klopp and the admiration of club owner Evangelos Marinakis, it appears Forest may be looking at another former Liverpool manager to replace Nuno if a change is made.
Forest’s Managerial Search Focuses on Four Names – But Not Klopp
Although talkSPORT has reported that former Tottenham manager and Europa League winner Ange Postecoglou might be open to succeeding Nuno, he reportedly isn’t among Forest’s top candidates. Likewise, Jose Mourinho—who could benefit from Forest’s strong defensive lineup featuring players like Ola Aina, Neco Williams, Douglas Luiz, Nikola Milenkovic, and Murillo—is not thought to be a leading contender.
According to The Sun, the man at the top of Forest’s wish list is Brendan Rodgers. The report claims Marinakis has had Rodgers in mind for some time and may now see an opportunity to make a move, especially since Rodgers is in the final year of his contract with Celtic—a club he previously left to return to the Premier League.
Rodgers’ most notable spell in England came between 2012 and 2015 with Liverpool, where he nearly won the league in the 2013/14 season, finishing second after scoring 101 goals. Despite that success, his teams often struggled defensively. His time at Leicester, however, was more balanced—he won the FA Cup and later added multiple league titles with Celtic.
Should Forest decide to part ways with Nuno, Rodgers’ combination of Premier League and European experience makes him a strong candidate for the job.
