Newcastle United Step Up Hunt for Isak Replacement Amid Liverpool Interest and Player Fallout
Newcastle United have reportedly accelerated efforts to sign a replacement for Alexander Isak, who continues to be linked with a move to Liverpool.
The 25-year-old striker has attracted strong interest from the Premier League champions, who had a £110 million plus add-ons offer rejected by Newcastle earlier this month. While no second bid has been made, Liverpool’s interest hasn’t faded.
Isak added fuel to the transfer speculation on Tuesday with a revealing social media statement. He claimed the club broke certain “promises” made to him, stating that “trust is lost” and that their “relationship can’t continue,” suggesting he sees his time at the club as coming to an end.
In response, Newcastle issued their own statement, denying that any club official had guaranteed Isak would be allowed to leave this summer.
If Isak does depart, Newcastle are eager to secure a replacement first.
They’ve had their eye on Brentford’s Yoane Wissa for some time and recently saw a bid of up to £40 million turned down. However, Wissa is reportedly still open to a move to St James’ Park.
According to The I Paper, Newcastle have also stepped up their pursuit of Wolves striker Jørgen Strand Larsen. Despite the Magpies’ growing interest, Wolves are reluctant to sell and have set a £60 million price tag for the Norwegian forward, who netted 14 goals in the league last season. Should Larsen leave, Wolves are expected to seek two replacements.
Larsen, under contract with Wolves until 2029, could become Newcastle’s sixth summer signing, joining Anthony Elanga, Jacob Ramsey, Malick Thiaw, Antonito Cordero, and Aaron Ramsdale (on loan).
Looking ahead, Newcastle face Liverpool on Monday, while Wolves meet Bournemouth on Saturday.
