Newcastle pave the way for an Alexander Isak transfer, a situation once thought impossible, giving Liverpool a boost.

Reports suggest Newcastle have now considered an option for Alexander Isak’s future that was previously thought unlikely.

With just over two weeks left in the transfer window, Liverpool remain interested in signing the Sweden international.

According to Daily Mail’s Craig Hope, Isak is currently ‘on strike’ at St James’ Park and is eager to move to Anfield this summer.

Newcastle would require a British-record fee to let Isak go, reportedly seeking at least £150 million.

With three years remaining on his contract, Newcastle swiftly rejected Liverpool’s initial £110 million bid earlier this month.

Liverpool have yet to make a second offer, and Isak is set to miss Newcastle’s opening Premier League game against Aston Villa as the situation unfolds.

Hope reveals Newcastle have four possible routes regarding Isak’s future, with one option standing out.

This particular scenario, known as Scenario D, involves Newcastle signing just one direct replacement for Isak instead of two new forwards.

That would mean Newcastle’s striking options would be the new signing, Anthony Gordon—who has been playing as a striker during pre-season—and William Osula.

Anthony Elanga could also cover as a striker if needed, though at Nottingham Forest he mainly played as a winger or attacking midfielder before joining Newcastle for £55 million this summer.

Newcastle’s striker targets

Newcastle seem to have a few options in mind for their new striker.

Portuguese media Jornal de Noticias (via Sport Witness) reports scouts were sent to watch Porto’s Spanish forward Samu Aghehowa earlier this week.

They’re also pursuing Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, who has returned to first-team training after a recent absence.

However, like Isak, Wissa will not be part of Brentford’s squad for their opening league game against Nottingham Forest.

Brentford’s head coach Keith Andrews commented:
“As a head coach, I want Yoane involved with the first team and squad. I believe that will happen moving forward, but I understand his current situation.
I have a strong relationship with him, which will continue, but right now, we must focus on players who are ready to play and perform this Sunday, and I don’t think Yoane is at that stage.”
