Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold have been long-serving teammates at Liverpool, but both could leave the club this summer as their contracts are set to expire.
Salah recently expressed his admiration for Alexander-Arnold, saying simply, “I love him.” The pair have been teammates for seven-and-a-half years, with Salah joining Liverpool in 2017 and Alexander-Arnold breaking into the first team the same year. Together, they have formed a formidable partnership on the right flank, helping Liverpool secure every major club trophy and earning recognition as two of the best players in their respective positions.
Despite their success this season, including challenges for the Premier League and Champions League, their futures at Anfield remain uncertain. The potential departure of either player would be a significant blow to the club and its supporters. However, their strong personal bond is likely to endure beyond any changes. Salah considers Alexander-Arnold one of his closest friends and said in an interview with TNT Sports that the defender is among the people he values most in football.
Reflecting on his relationships, Salah mentioned several close teammates but highlighted Alexander-Arnold, saying, “I like Trent a lot, but he’s crazy. He doesn’t like to talk, but I love him.” Alexander-Arnold reciprocated the sentiment, describing their on-pitch connection and understanding. “Even though we could so many times, we never moan at each other,” he said.
The England international also shared a lighter moment, recalling visits to Salah’s house, which include humorous incidents with Salah’s cats. “He’s got a video of me screaming because one of his cats jumped near me. I’ve told him that video can never come out,” Alexander-Arnold joked.
As both players are now free to negotiate with clubs outside England, this may be their final season together at Liverpool. Their potential departures would mark the end of an era for the club and its fans.
