Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez has caused a stir among Liverpool fans with his response to a journalist questioning why he wasn’t nominated for the Premier League Young Player of the Season award.
The Hungarian international has impressed during a standout season with the Cherries, earning a reputation as one of the most promising young full-backs in world football.
Kerkez has been frequently linked with a move to Liverpool, who are reportedly seeking a long-term successor to Andy Robertson.
According to David Ornstein on Sky Sports News, Kerkez is a top target for Liverpool ahead of what could be a busy summer transfer window.
Reports suggest Kerkez has a £50 million release clause, and with Liverpool also interested in £35 million-rated Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, the club could strengthen both flanks and still have budget for additional signings.
Kerkez has previously hinted at ambitions to play European football. In a March interview with The Athletic, he said: “As a kid, you dream to play at the highest level, win trophies, and be part of top teams… We’ll see what happens in the summer.”
Fueling transfer speculation even more, Kerkez recently replied to a post from local journalist Bence Bocsak, who criticized his exclusion from the Young Player of the Season shortlist. Bocsak wrote: “Kerkez should’ve at least been shortlisted. It’s ridiculous he wasn’t nominated after such a strong season — he’s third in goal contributions for players 21 or younger and he’s a full-back.”
Kerkez simply replied, “Don’t worry, someone else saw it,” followed by a wink emoji.
Though vague, Liverpool fans interpreted the comment as a nod toward a possible move to Anfield.
