Arsenal found themselves at the center of a controversial penalty incident during the first half of their clash with PSG at the Emirates Stadium.
Around the 37th minute, the Gunners managed to push into the PSG penalty area. The ball landed near Mikel Merino, but just before he could take a shot, Joao Neves stepped in with a challenge.
Merino went down in clear discomfort, and replays revealed that Neves had caught him on the foot right after making contact with the ball.
Manager Mikel Arteta appeared frustrated by the referee’s decision not to award a penalty. He was seen in a tense exchange with his assistant coach, seemingly arguing that the contact warranted a spot-kick.
Despite Arteta’s animated gestures indicating Neves had fouled Merino, his assistant seemed unconvinced. Ultimately, Arteta had no choice but to move on with the game.
