Lewis Steele of the Daily Mail has reported that Liverpool could still complete two more signings this summer, though he has advised some caution regarding the club’s overall spending.
The Reds have already spent nearly £150 million on Bayer Leverkusen duo Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz, and they are reportedly nearing a £40 million deal for Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez.
Despite being Premier League champions, Liverpool are not typically known for lavish spending. However, new head coach Arne Slot is determined to build a squad capable of competing across all four competitions in the coming seasons.
Under the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations, clubs are allowed to incur a maximum loss of £105 million over a three-year period. Although Liverpool earned over £176 million for winning their 20th league title (according to This Is Anfield), and have brought in funds from player sales — including £10 million for Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid, £3 million for Nat Phillips to West Brom, and potential sales of Jarell Quansah, Harvey Elliott, and Darwin Nunez — financial discipline remains important.
Steele believes further reinforcements are likely, particularly in central defence and attack. Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi has been linked with a move to Anfield, while Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike is also reportedly a target admired by Slot and his staff.
Although there’s currently no danger of breaching financial rules — which could result in penalties like points deductions or transfer bans — it’s an issue Liverpool’s new sporting director Richard Hughes and his team will be mindful of as the transfer window progresses. What additional moves the club will make remains uncertain.
