Harvey Elliott’s Liverpool Future in Doubt After Reddy’s Update
Harvey Elliott’s position at Liverpool has become increasingly uncertain following a report from Melissa Reddy.
The England youth international has mostly been restricted to substitute appearances during Arne Slot’s first season at Anfield.
More notably, the former Fulham academy graduate has seen his overall game time significantly reduced compared to the 2,786 minutes he played under Jürgen Klopp in the 2023/24 season.
Interestingly, Klopp—now leading Red Bull—admitted last season that he regretted not giving Elliott more playing time. However, his Dutch successor has handed the midfielder just 583 minutes across all competitions, preferring to rely heavily on Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Ryan Gravenberch.

Elliott Could Be Sold This Summer
Reddy now suggests that Elliott may be sold if a suitable offer comes in, particularly in the context of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s potential move to Real Madrid this summer.
“The club has presented Alexander-Arnold with lucrative offers to stay, but they understand the appeal of a fresh challenge, a new lifestyle, and the prestige of playing for Real Madrid,” Reddy told Sky Sports.
“Liverpool has supported him throughout this emotionally charged decision, shielding him from speculation about his future. However, they also recognize that it would be hypocritical to be frustrated with Alexander-Arnold’s possible departure when they themselves would consider selling Elliott should a strong offer arrive—despite the fact that he once turned down Europe’s elite clubs to make Anfield his home.”
The 21-year-old still has more than two years left on his current contract with Liverpool.
Does Liverpool Need More Physically Dominant Midfielders?
There’s an ongoing debate—especially in the context of the Premier League—about whether a midfield made up of smaller, less physically imposing players is a disadvantage.
Given Elliott’s limited opportunities under Slot, it seems the 56-year-old head coach may partially share this view.
Despite his restricted minutes, Elliott has proven to be a reliable option off the bench for Liverpool this season. He has contributed six goal involvements (four goals and two assists), averaging a goal or assist every 97.16 minutes—an impressive record for a midfielder.
It’s unclear what more Elliott could do to earn Slot’s trust. Ultimately, the fact that the manager continues to push Szoboszlai and others to their limits rather than giving Elliott more opportunities speaks volumes about his stance on the young midfielder.
