Marcus Rashford has previously expressed his views on Liverpool amid fresh reports that new Reds boss Arne Slot is eyeing a surprise move for the Manchester United forward.
Following Ruben Amorim’s appointment at Old Trafford in November, it quickly became apparent that Rashford’s time at United was coming to an end.
Just two months into Amorim’s reign, Rashford was loaned out to Premier League rivals Aston Villa until the end of the season — a sign that he had fallen out of favor under the new management.
Since returning from that short-term spell, speculation has mounted that Rashford will leave United permanently this summer, with clubs like Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain said to be interested.
However, a new and unexpected twist emerged on Wednesday, with reports claiming that Liverpool are among the clubs exploring a potential move for the England international. Rashford has already shared his feelings on Liverpool in the past, and his comments may cast doubt on whether such a transfer could happen.
The rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool is considered one of the most intense in football, with only nine players having made the switch between the two clubs throughout their history. Based on previous remarks, Rashford seems unlikely to want to be the 10th.
Back in 2022, during an appearance on The Shop, Rashford was asked which teams he disliked most. His response was clear: “Liverpool. I don’t like Liverpool, and City.”
He elaborated, saying that the Liverpool rivalry carries more emotional weight due to the club’s history, whereas the dislike for City is more rooted in local competition: “With City, you don’t like them but there’s no massive reason. With Liverpool, it feels more intense.”
That said, Rashford did offer praise for one aspect of the Merseyside club. Speaking on Manchester United’s TikTok account, he named Anfield as the best stadium he’s experienced in terms of atmosphere, even admitting he once visited the ground incognito: “Best away atmosphere? Anfield. I’ve been there a few times — once while playing, and once wearing a hoodie and a hat!”
Is Liverpool seriously considering a move for Rashford?
According to The Daily Mail, Rashford is one of six possible alternatives Liverpool are evaluating should they fail to land Newcastle striker Alexander Isak — their top attacking target.
The report suggests Rashford was “floated as an idea” during internal discussions, though he is reportedly low on the list and talks have not moved forward.
Other forwards Liverpool are considering include Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, Brentford’s Yoan Wissa, Napoli star Victor Osimhen, Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt, and Real Madrid’s Rodrygo.
