Marc Guehi’s preferred transfer destination revealed as negotiations continue ahead of Monday’s deadline

Liverpool have reportedly been given a boost in their pursuit of Marc Guehi, with the final week of the summer transfer window underway.

Anfield officials are believed to have opened preliminary discussions with Crystal Palace over the 25-year-old centre-back. Meanwhile, Manchester City have also been linked with a potential late move for the Eagles captain.

However, according to Paul Joyce of The Times, Guehi is only interested in joining Liverpool if he departs Selhurst Park before next Monday’s deadline. This preference has also been confirmed by two other reliable sources in recent hours.

Guehi is keen on a move to Liverpool
On Tuesday, Fabrizio Romano shared an update on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “Despite interest from Manchester City and other clubs, Marc Guehi’s stance remains the same: Liverpool is his preferred destination. Talks are ongoing for a possible transfer before the window closes. If it doesn’t happen now, Liverpool will keep pursuing him for 2026.”

David Ornstein echoed this in The Athletic’s latest Transfer DealSheet, noting that the England international would choose Anfield if he leaves. Palace, however, are hesitant to lose their captain on a free next year, especially as Guehi reportedly has no intention of extending his contract, which expires in 12 months.

A deal could still happen
If Palace lower their asking price—currently believed to be £45 million according to Miguel Delaney—Liverpool may be able to strike a deal. The Reds are said to value the defender closer to £35 million, meaning some compromise would be needed.

Fans have been urging the club to push for Guehi following a narrow win over Newcastle, in which Ibrahima Konaté’s display drew criticism. While Liverpool’s decision-makers aren’t likely to overreact to one game, Konaté’s own contract situation mirrors Guehi’s, adding another layer to the scenario.

With just six days left in the window, there’s still a chance for Liverpool to strengthen their back line. Guehi’s apparent preference for a move to Merseyside could grow stronger if Palace exit the Conference League in Thursday’s second-leg clash against Fredrikstad.
