Marc Guehi will have another opportunity to sign with Liverpool following the failed transfer.

Marc Guehi has been assured that he will have another opportunity to join Liverpool after his last-minute transfer from Crystal Palace fell through on deadline day.

Liverpool was eager to make Palace captain Guehi their final signing of an intense transfer window and had reached an agreement with the South London club. Palace faced pressure to sell since Guehi’s contract expires next summer, but head coach Oliver Glasner halted the deal when it became clear the club couldn’t secure a suitable replacement before the deadline. Guehi, 25, reportedly felt frustrated by Palace’s refusal to let him leave, especially as he continued training and playing normally while negotiations occurred behind the scenes. Meanwhile, the club had allowed teammate Eberechi Eze to move to Arsenal earlier in the window.

However, former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann believes this is not Guehi’s last chance and is confident that Liverpool will try again to sign the centre-back in the near future. Hamann told CoinPoker: “It’s obviously disappointing for Guehi because it seemed like the deal was going to happen.

He now has to focus on doing well at Crystal Palace and potentially look for a move in January or next summer. It’s tough because chances to join Liverpool don’t come often, especially when one almost happens and then falls through. But he is still young, and there will be another opportunity to join Liverpool.”

Liverpool’s pursuit is complicated by the fact that from January 1, Guehi can negotiate pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs, with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid reportedly interested in the England international. This presents a challenge for the reigning Premier League champions, especially since current starter Ibrahima Konate’s contract also expires next summer.

Despite the transfer collapse, Guehi has been praised for his professionalism. However, Hamann thinks the situation sets a risky precedent, particularly since Liverpool successfully completed a deal for Alexander Isak, who had spent two months on strike at Newcastle to push through his move.
