Marc Guehi’s Crystal Palace Future in Doubt After Collapsed Liverpool Transfer
Marc Guehi has reportedly decided on his future with Crystal Palace after a last-minute move to Liverpool fell through on transfer deadline day.
On Monday, Liverpool were heavily involved in what turned out to be one of the busiest deadline days in recent memory. After smashing the British transfer record by signing Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for a reported £125 million, the club set its sights on strengthening the defense. Manager Arne Slot identified Guehi as a key target.
Liverpool and Palace agreed on a £35 million deal, and Guehi was given the green light to undergo a medical. However, the transfer collapsed in the final hours after Palace were unable to secure a replacement, leading the club to call off the move.
Reports suggest Guehi was left “unhappy” with Palace’s decision to block his switch to Anfield. According to talkSPORT, the 25-year-old has now decided he will not renew his contract with the Eagles, meaning he is likely to leave for free when his current deal ends after the 2025/26 season.
Liverpool remain interested in signing Guehi, but they will face competition from other top European clubs. Bayern Munich, the reigning Bundesliga champions, are said to be among those monitoring his situation ahead of a potential free transfer next summer.
talkSPORT confirmed via social media: “Bayern Munich are among the clubs interested in signing Marc Guehi at the end of the season, talkSPORT understands. The Eagles skipper will be available as a free agent when his Selhurst Park contract expires next summer having made it clear he will not sign a new deal.”
Guehi has been a key figure for Palace under manager Oliver Glasner this season, even scoring a stunning goal in their 3-0 Premier League win over Aston Villa.
After that match, Glasner emphasized Guehi’s importance to the squad, stating:
“I told the chairman we must keep Marc if we want to have a successful season. There’s no way to find a suitable replacement in one day. We all agreed he would only be sold if we already had someone lined up.
We wanted a replacement by July 1st. It’s now August 31st, and we still don’t have one. It’s clear—Marc is essential. He’s not just a key player; he’s our captain.”
Guehi is currently on international duty with England, while Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel’s side prepares for matches against Andorra and Serbia in the coming week.
