Sky Sports’ broadcast team found humor in a subtle jab Manchester City took at Liverpool following the Reds’ 2-0 victory at the Etihad on Sunday.
Mo Salah played a key role, scoring and assisting Dominik Szoboszlai in what turned out to be a comfortable win for Liverpool against Pep Guardiola’s squad. The 32-year-old forward impressed with his performance, setting six new records in the process.
With the victory, Arne Slot’s side secured three crucial points, extending their lead at the top of the Premier League to 11 points ahead of second-placed Arsenal.
After the match, Salah reflected on the significance of winning at the Etihad, telling Sky Sports:
“It is incredible [winning at Man City]. It’s a very tough place to play, and they have an incredible manager. I’m happy we won—it’s special, especially in a title race. Hopefully, we stay calm because sometimes the pressure gets to us. We just try to win every game.”
Despite Salah’s respectful remarks about City, the reigning Premier League champions couldn’t resist a playful reminder of their dominance. Sky Sports presenter Dave Jones drew attention to an electronic screen inside the stadium displaying “Champions 4 In-A-Row”, listing the years of City’s recent league triumphs. This prompted laughter from the broadcast panel, which included Jamie Carragher, Roy Keane, Micah Richards, Daniel Sturridge, and Jones himself.
Fans reacted quickly on social media. One joked, “Thanks for the reminder. We all kinda forgot about it. Lmao not relevant enough.” Another quipped, “Manchester City are so petty.
