If Liverpool manage to secure two more of their reported transfer targets — including a world-class talent — Arne Slot could have a starting lineup strong enough to win every major trophy.
Slot, in his debut season at Anfield, led Liverpool to a Premier League title, finishing 10 points clear of runners-up Arsenal.
Despite already having a squad capable of competing at the highest level, Liverpool have been very active in the transfer market this summer.
So far, they’ve brought in Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Freddie Woodman, and Armin Pecsi, spending over £185 million on those signings.
And they’re not done yet. This week, Liverpool have been linked with Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt and Real Madrid’s Rodrygo. Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is also being considered, especially as Ibrahima Konate has been linked with a move to Madrid.
If those three players join, Liverpool’s total summer spending could exceed £350 million — and Slot would be able to field an incredibly formidable starting XI.
Potential Liverpool starting XI after a blockbuster summer:
Goalkeeper: Alisson Becker
Defenders: Jeremie Frimpong, Marc Guehi, Virgil van Dijk, Milos Kerkez
Midfielders: Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Florian Wirtz
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano shared on social media that Hugo Ekitike has made it clear to Eintracht Frankfurt that he wants to join Liverpool. Talks are ongoing despite the club’s initial bid being rejected, with personal terms already agreed. Romano added that Newcastle are no longer in the race.
Meanwhile, David Ornstein reported that the potential deal for Ekitike could be worth over €80 million, and that the French forward is keen on the move, so personal terms aren’t an issue.
