Liverpool have received a major attacking boost as Cody Gakpo confirmed he rejected interest from other clubs, including Bayern Munich, to sign a new contract at Anfield that runs until 2030.
In an interview with ESPN, the Dutch forward shared why staying at Liverpool was always his preferred choice, despite Bayern Munich expressing interest earlier in the summer.
Gakpo Addresses Bayern Interest and Liverpool Loyalty
The 26-year-old disclosed that Bayern made an approach before they eventually completed a £65.5 million deal for Luis Diaz.
“From what I know, they were interested, but in the end, they bought Luis Diaz,” Gakpo said, smiling.
While Diaz has since bid an emotional farewell to Liverpool supporters, it’s evident that Gakpo was far more committed to remaining with the Reds.
The Dutch winger admitted that offers from abroad didn’t appeal to him, as his heart was set on staying at Liverpool.
“I’d already made it clear to the club that I’m happy here and that my family feels settled in England. We feel at home, and that’s really important—beyond just football,” he said.
He also noted the unpredictability of transfer windows. “They can be really chaotic,” Gakpo said. “When your future’s up in the air, things get complicated.”
With Marc Guehi also revealing that Liverpool was his only option this summer, it’s clear that Anfield remains an attractive destination for top talent.
