Liverpool still have a strong chance of retaining Trent Alexander-Arnold beyond the upcoming summer transfer window.
The England international has not yet officially expressed a desire to move to Real Madrid, as emphasized by Melissa Reddy on Sky Sports. She noted, “Until he says, ‘I want to leave for Madrid,’ Liverpool won’t give up hope. And so far, that hasn’t been said.”
However, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool can meet Alexander-Arnold’s demands and expectations. It is known that, at a minimum, his camp is seeking a three-year contract and the captaincy in the future. While the financial aspects of a new deal are important, this is unlikely to be a dealbreaker.
Paul Merson, however, believes it’s almost certain that Alexander-Arnold will join Real Madrid by the summer, stating, “I can’t see anything but Real Madrid. When you get your contract down to six months, you lose out on a lot of money, and I think it’s at the stage now where it’s 100% that he’ll go.”
Merson added that Real Madrid rarely miss out on their targets and it would be surprising if a deal didn’t happen.
However, joining Real Madrid may not guarantee Alexander-Arnold the individual success he seeks, such as winning the Ballon d’Or. While Madrid has a strong history in that regard, it is still possible for the right-back to earn such accolades at Liverpool. If he plays a key role in a potential clean sweep or a Premier League and Champions League double, he could well be a contender for individual awards.
