Liverpool show ‘genuine’ interest in Alexander Isak alternative as rival club withdraws from the race in major development.

Liverpool have made a major move in their summer transfer plans as they continue the search for a new striker.

The Reds have already spent heavily ahead of the upcoming season, bringing in Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz—who arrived for a club-record fee of £116 million—and Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.

Manager Arne Slot is still looking to strengthen the squad, particularly with a new No.9.

One player attracting Liverpool’s interest is Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, who netted 23 goals in the Premier League last season. Another target is Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt, considered one of Europe’s most promising young forwards.

According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool are a serious contender to sign Ekitike, especially with Chelsea dropping out of the race after sealing a £60 million deal for Joao Pedro from Brighton.

Ekitike, 23, is currently valued at €100 million (£86 million). Plettenberg reported on X that Frankfurt hope to keep the forward, particularly as they prepare for Champions League competition, but they expect offers to come in this month. Alongside Liverpool, both Newcastle and Manchester United are monitoring the situation. United remain in the mix despite already securing Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5 million.

Liverpool and Newcastle both have the advantage of Champions League football to offer, which could influence Ekitike’s decision.

The French striker, who developed at Reims, joined Frankfurt permanently from PSG for €16.5 million (£14 million) after a successful loan spell. Last season, he scored 22 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions.
