Liverpool are reportedly planning to include a high-profile player in a surprise deal to secure their top transfer target this summer.
After another quiet winter transfer window, many fans have expressed frustration over the club’s lack of activity since Arne Slot took charge. Addressing these concerns, Slot reassured supporters that the club’s inactivity was due to confidence in the current squad, but he confirmed that new signings would arrive in the summer.
Now, it appears Liverpool are preparing their first major transfer move of the year and are willing to sacrifice one of their own players to get the deal done.
Although fans believe several areas of the squad need strengthening, the most urgent concern is the forward line. While Diogo Jota remains a fan favorite, his injury history makes him an unreliable option for an entire season. Meanwhile, Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz have struggled to make an impact in the role this season, increasing the need for a new striker.
Reports suggest that Liverpool’s management shares this perspective and has identified Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak as the ideal addition. However, securing the Swedish striker’s signature won’t be easy, as Newcastle have set his price tag at over £100 million.
To overcome this hurdle, Football Insider reports that Liverpool are considering a player-plus-cash offer that includes Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan striker, who joined Liverpool from Benfica for £85 million in 2022, is now valued at around £60 million by the club.
Isak, on the other hand, arrived at Newcastle in the same transfer window for a club-record £63 million. Since then, he has netted 54 goals and provided nine assists in 96 appearances, whereas Nunez has recorded 39 goals and 22 assists in 130 matches for Liverpool.
Liverpool may also face competition from Arsenal, as the London club is reportedly keen on signing Isak to address their own need for a top striker this summer.
