Liverpool set sights on next major target following Florian Wirtz deal, with club’s transfer record potentially set to be broken.

Posted on May 28, 2025 By Dailynewsupdate No Comments on Liverpool set sights on next major target following Florian Wirtz deal, with club’s transfer record potentially set to be broken.

Liverpool have already pinpointed their next major transfer target following the signing of Florian Wirtz, though securing him will come at a steep cost.

After clinching the Premier League title with a win over Tottenham in April, the club appears to be gearing up for an ambitious summer transfer window.

With both Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz reportedly finalizing their moves to Anfield this week, focus is shifting to who could be the next addition to Arne Slot’s squad.

While Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez has been strongly linked, a fresh report suggests that another high-profile name has now emerged as Liverpool’s top target—despite his hefty price tag.

Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg reports that Liverpool are making a serious push for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, identifying him as their next major signing from the Bundesliga.

Negotiations for a potential summer deal are said to be underway, with both manager Arne Slot and sporting director Michael Edwards eager to get it done in the coming weeks.

Although Frankfurt has yet to receive an official bid, CEO Markus Krosche is reportedly demanding a minimum of €100 million (£83.8m) for the 22-year-old forward.

If Liverpool are willing to meet that valuation, this summer could become the most expensive in the club’s history. Frimpong is expected to cost £29.5 million due to a release clause in his Bayer Leverkusen contract, while Wirtz could command a fee of around €150 million (£127 million). If the Reds also pursue Kerkez, he could add another £40 million to the bill.

This would bring Liverpool’s total summer outlay to roughly £280 million—more than twice their previous record from the 2018/19 pre-season window.

However, the club is expected to recoup some of that spending through player sales, with Darwin Nunez, Caoimhin Kelleher, and Kostas Tsimikas all rumored to be on their way out.
