Liverpool have reportedly sent a scout to Germany to finalize a significant transfer just hours after Arsenal announced the signing of Martin Zubimendi.
During the summer, new Liverpool manager Arne Slot aimed to make a strong statement by securing highly-rated Real Sociedad midfielder Zubimendi. However, the Spaniard initially chose to stay at his boyhood club and turned down Liverpool. He has now agreed to a high-profile summer move to Arsenal.
In response, Liverpool appear to be moving quickly, with chief scout Barry Hunter traveling to Nuremberg to negotiate the transfer of Greek forward Stefanos Tzimas, according to Anfield Watch.
The 19-year-old, currently on loan at 2. Bundesliga side FC Nürnberg from PAOK, has impressed with eight goals and two assists in 15 appearances this season. Liverpool are reportedly prepared to pay around £25 million for Tzimas, who is open to joining the club.
The move is seen as a potential replacement for Darwin Núñez, amid speculation the Uruguayan striker could be sold to a Saudi Pro League club. However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano emphasized that any deal for Tzimas hinges on Núñez’s potential departure, which is still in its early stages.
Romano confirmed the interest from Saudi clubs, stating, “The interest in Darwin Núñez is genuine, but negotiations are not yet advanced. Liverpool still consider him an important player, and there is plenty of work to be done before any move can happen.”
