Liverpool have reportedly rejected a substantial offer for Darwin Núñez, as speculation grows about their interest in young forward Stefanos Tzimas.
The Reds originally signed Núñez from Benfica in the summer of 2022 for an initial £64 million, a move widely praised given his impressive goal-scoring record in Portugal. However, despite a 34-goal season with Benfica, the Uruguayan has struggled to fully adapt to the demands of the Premier League. Núñez himself acknowledged the challenges, describing the English league as “stronger and more competitive” than what he experienced in Portugal.
While Núñez has shown flashes of his potential—such as his dramatic late brace against Newcastle last season—his form has been inconsistent. This season, he has managed only two Premier League goals under Arne Slot, fueling speculation about his future at the club.
According to Sam Maguire of Anfield Watch, Liverpool recently declined a verbal £70 million bid from Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal, managed by former Benfica coach Jorge Jesus. Al Hilal are reportedly searching for a replacement for Neymar, who is linked with a move back to Santos. Liverpool are said to value Núñez at £75 million, with Michael Edwards leading negotiations to recoup that fee.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are eyeing Greek forward Stefanos Tzimas, currently on loan at FC Nürnberg from PAOK. Sky’s Florian Plettenberg reports that Liverpool have initiated talks with Nürnberg about a summer transfer. The 19-year-old has impressed this season, scoring eight goals and providing two assists in 15 appearances.
Nürnberg are expected to activate a £15.1 million buy clause in Tzimas’ loan deal, intending to sell him for a profit. However, Liverpool face competition for the teenager, with Premier League clubs Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Brighton, as well as several Bundesliga sides, also expressing interest.
